Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examine patients, take medical histories, and request/interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Provide accurate diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment.
  • Offer preventive care, health education, and counseling to patients and their families.
  • Refer patients to specialists when necessary and coordinate care with other healthcare professionals.
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, interns, and clinical officers.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all patient records in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews, and continuous professional development.
  • Maintain professional ethics and comply with all hospital policies, national medical regulations, and patient safety standards.
  • Provide emergency medical care when required, including on-call duties.
  • Contribute to research, audits, and quality improvement initiatives of the hospital.
  • Perform permitted procedures according to the requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a recognized university.
  • Completion of a one-year internship in a recognized health facility.
  • Valid registration and license to practice from the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT).

Knowledge

  • Excellent clinical knowledge across general medicine and patient care.
  • Understanding of hospital procedures, infection prevention and control, and medical ethics.
  • Experience of at least 2–3 years post-internship in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with emergency care, outpatient, and inpatient management.
  • Experience in supervising junior medical staff and collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients and staff.
  • Ability to handle emergencies and work under pressure.
  • Competence in supervising and mentoring junior staff.
