Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with operating standards and safe work procedures.
- Manage Drill & Blast activities in line with Barrick’s safety and environmental policies.
- Oversee drill fleet efficiency and productivity.
- Assist in developing work schedules for Drill & Blast activities.
- Implement and report on continuous improvement and KPI initiatives.
- Prepare drill and charge plans for underground operations.
- Track progress according to schedule.
- Monitor blasting quality and optimize operational requirements.
- Assist in budgeting for explosives and drilling consumables.
- Identify optimization opportunities for drill and blast activities.
- Review long-hole drilling and stope performance.
- Develop weekly drill and blast schedules to meet targets.
- Monitor blast performance focusing on fragmentation control.
- Provide technical expertise and liaise with explosives suppliers.
- Collaborate to ensure timely and reliable Drill and Blast plans.
- Ensure proper allocation of drill rigs within budget.
- Analyze drill and blast activities for optimization.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports for Mining Engineers.
- Ensure QA/QC sheets are completed prior to blasting.
- Advise the Mining Manager on cost-reduction initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Degree in Mining Engineering and registration as a mining or professional engineer.
- Valid blasting certificate.
- Mine Overseers/Captain Certificate of Competency is advantageous.
Experience Requirements:
- 5 years of progressive underground mining experience, particularly in drilling and blasting.
- Experience managing a sizable drill fleet in challenging conditions.
- Prior experience as a Drill & Blast coordinator in an underground setting.
- A tertiary qualification in a related field is highly desirable.
Skills / Knowledge Requirements:
- Understanding of Mines Health & Safety Act.
- Knowledge of building materials.
- Full driving license.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Organized and capable of working independently.
- Ability to provide courteous service.
- Flexible working approach.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Experience in Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment.
