Job Responsibilities

A. Legal Advisory

  • Provide accurate and timely legal advice to management and departments on various matters, including commercial transactions and regulatory issues.
  • Interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies affecting the Bank’s operations.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing internal policies to ensure legal compliance.

B. Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Ensure contracts reflect the Bank’s interests and are legally binding.
  • Maintain a contract register and manage timely renewals and terminations.

C. Litigation & Dispute Resolution

  • Manage litigation matters involving the Bank in coordination with external counsel.
  • Prepare legal documentation for court proceedings.
  • Represent the Bank in courts and other legal forums.

D. Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor legal and regulatory changes affecting the Bank and advise management accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws.

E. Corporate Governance & Secretarial Support

  • Assist in preparing documentation for Board and Committee meetings.
  • Maintain and update statutory records and filings.
  • Support the Head of Legal/Company Secretary in governance-related tasks.

F. Legal Risk Management

  • Identify legal risks in operations and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Support internal investigations and respond to legal queries.
  • Conduct internal legal audits and participate in compliance assessments.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) from a recognized university.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice and admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania.
  • 3 to 5 years of post-qualification experience in legal practice or a legal role within a financial institution.
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian laws, especially in banking and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with regulators such as BOT, TRA, and BRELA is desirable.
