Position Summary

The organization is looking for a motivated intern to assist in implementing community-based economic empowerment initiatives in Ifakara, Tanzania. The intern will collaborate with the Program Coordinator on community outreach, project monitoring, loan program support, financial documentation, and administrative tasks. This role provides an opportunity for recent graduates to gain practical experience in inclusive financing and non-profit operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify eligible loan applicants, evaluate their business/project viability, and guide them through the application process.
  • Create and manage loan application forms, evaluation tools, and repayment tracking systems.
  • Conduct outreach to engage potential beneficiaries and cooperatives.
  • Monitor repayment schedules, address challenges, and ensure compliance with agreements.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including cashbooks, receipts, and expenditure reports.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for stakeholders.
  • Document all financial transactions related to loan disbursements and repayments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and manage petty cash records.
  • Monitor funded projects and provide technical support.
  • Collect testimonials and document success stories.
  • Organize training sessions in cooperative management and financial literacy.
  • Represent the NGO at community events and training workshops.
  • Document field activities through photography and reports.
  • Take minutes during meetings and maintain follow-up action lists.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Rural Development, Development Planning and Management, Finance and Accounting, Business Administration, or related fields.

Skills and Competences

  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Office, especially Excel and Word).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • High level of professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili is preferred.

Remuneration

This is an unpaid internship; however, the intern will receive a monthly living subsistence allowance and mentorship opportunities.
