Job Responsibilities

The Field Officer will provide extension services, technical support, and field-level implementation of poultry production interventions. Responsibilities include:

  1. Acting as the frontline extension officer for poultry farmers, offering advisory services and technical assistance.
  2. Conducting household and on-farm visits to identify production challenges and provide solutions.
  3. Delivering coaching and mentorship to promote improved technologies and best practices.
  4. Collaborating with government livestock extension officers for coordinated service delivery.
  5. Conducting training on poultry housing, feeding, health care, and biosecurity.
  6. Encouraging proper record-keeping and a business mindset among PAHs.
  7. Distributing chicks, feeds, and vaccines while monitoring their utilization.
  8. Tracking flock performance and reporting technical issues promptly.
  9. Mobilizing beneficiaries into Poultry Producer Groups and facilitating group activities.
  10. Linking PAHs to service providers and supporting collective marketing.
  11. Collecting field data and submitting reports to the Zonal Coordinator.
  12. Liaising with village leaders and representing the program at local events.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in animal health, animal science, livestock production, or a related field.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
  • Experience working with rural households and strong practical knowledge of poultry production.
  • Experience with rural smallholders is preferred.
